“Run for Child Friendly Chandigarh” flagged off by UT Administrator

On the occasion of Children’s Day, Chandigarh Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) in collaboration with State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) U.T. Chandigarh organized Run for Child Friendly Chandigarh

The event was flagged-off by the V P Singh Bandnore, Governor of Punjab & Administrator U.T. Chandigarh in the presence of Dr Ajay Kumar Singla, IAS, Secretary Social Welfare, Mandeep Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner Chandigarh Administration, Davesh Moudgil, Mayor, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, Arjun Sharma (E), SDM, Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary, SLSA, Navjot Kaur, Director Social Welfare, Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson CCPCR, Prof Nishtha Jaswal and Dr Monika M Singh, Members of CCPCR.

While speaking on the occasion, V P Singh Bandnore said, “I would like to congratulate and applaud the efforts of CCPCR and Harjinder Kaur Chairperson, CCPCR for taking this initiative. Children Rights should be at forefront of the helms of affairs for the country and initiatives like these bring back the focus of the civil society in working towards building a better future for the children. I believe, we as natives of Chandigarh, have the capacity to show and guide the nation of how to create child friendly cities. I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Children’s week”.

Approximately 700+ students from Government and Private Schools of Chandigarh participated in 4 Km run and showcased banners and slogans on child friendly Chandigarh.

Davesh Moudgil, Mayor, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation also waved off the children’s during run of Child Friendly Chandigarh at Sukhana Lake, Chandigarh. The Chief Guest for the concluding program was Justice Mahesh Grover, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh –cum- Executive Chairman State Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh. On the occasion, schools who have pioneered in innovative program for the holistic development and welfare of the children were recognized for their program as twinning of schools, Safety pandits (POCSO Training), Self Defence Training Program, Power of Rs 1, Peer learning etc in various schools.

Additionally, Children from Aashiana and Snehlalaya who have won accolades for sports were awarded by Justice Mahesh Grover, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh–cum-Executive Chairman State Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh. While speaking on the occasion, Justice Mahesh Grover said, “Growing impatience within our society is detrimental for the wellbeing of the Country. Towards our children, we lay responsibility of creating safe and secure societies where we can give all of children holistic opportunities of growth and development. We all should be committed in ensuring every child has a right to a safe, healthy, peaceful childhood and to develop to their full potential”.

Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR said, “We stay firm on our commitment to our Children for providing child friendly environment for their growth and development.” This week, CCPCR is also organizing Slogan writing competition, Wall painting competition, and Quiz Competition on child rights. The Children’s Week Celebration will be concluded with a Cultural Function on 20th November 2018 at Bal Bhavan, Sector 23, Chandigarh. Also present on the occasion were Kartar Singh, Law Officer, Chanchal Singh and Niti, Consultants, CCPCR, Arvind K Dhawan, PA to Chairperson along with teams from District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Chandigarh and Women and Child Helpline.
