A ‘Solar Power Awareness Camp’
To popularize ‘Solar Chandigarh Campaign, a ‘Solar Power Awareness Camp’, was organised by Chandigarh Renewable Energy And Science & Technology Promotion Society, CREST along with CRAWFED (Chandigarh Residents Association Welfare Federation) and YUVSATTA NGO, at Government Museum & Art Gallery, Sector 10-C , Chandigarh. Debendra Dalai, IFS, CEO, CREST and Director, Department of Science & Technology was the Chief Guest. Manufacturers of Solar Power System and around 100 residents of the area participated in the event.
Addressing the gathering Debendra Dalai said that Chandigarh is designated as a Model Solar City by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Central Govt. and has set the target to install 69 MW Rooftop Solar Power Plant to be installed in Chandigarh by 2022 and Chandigarh Administration is fully committed to develop Chandigarh as a Model Solar City. He emphasized that renewable energy is the need of the hour and as CREST is executing Rooftop Solar SPV programme in UT Chandigarh and has already installed 26.069 MW SPV Power Plants on Rooftops of Govt. Institutions/ Buildings and Private Sector upto 31st Dec,2018.
He also said that Chandigarh Administration has already amended building by laws for installation of Solar Rooftop Power Plants and making it compulsory on all residential buildings of specified dimensions.
But to motivate people to adopt this Green technology and ‘Go Solar’ on their own, various meetings and awareness campaign has been organised by CREST time to time to raise environmental benefits along with financial benefits to the solar consumers. He further added that the solar power generated can be used to run home appliances and the surplus power if any can be sent to the Grid for which Electricity Department pay back to consumers and solarisation may be a potential mechanism for net earnings from Solar Power Plants in many a cases.
On the occasion, the officials of CREST also addressed the queries of residents on easy installation and quick access to loans from banks can also be facilitated to the solar applicant. On this occasion Addl. CEO CREST Dr Abdul Qayum and Project Director Ravinder Singh were also present, who resolved the queries of the participants.
