Pledge ceremony to observe “Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas & Rashtriya Ekta Diwas”

pledge taking ceremony to observe “Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas (National Rededication Day) & Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day)” was held at the UT Secretariat in the morning. Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh administered the oaths to all the employees of the Secretariat. Senior officers of Chandigarh Administration & Chandigarh Police were also present during the ceremony.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) is the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Iron Man of India’s freedom struggle, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, lent his steely strength to India’s consolidation after Independence, in full measure. A new nation was born. The challenge of protecting its unity was evident. With amazing skill, the Sardar accomplished the task, and became Architect of the Unified India. On 31st October, therefore, the nation celebrates his birth anniversary as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, rejoicing over his precious legacy.

As a fitting tribute to the builder of Indian unity, the day is marked by Run for Unity, March Past, Pledge ceremony to uphold the nation’s unity, Essay/Slogan/Painting competition and seminar to highlight the Sardar’s role in India’s history. The Pledge taken on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) aims to foster and reinforce our dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of our nation.

Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas (National Rededication Day) is observed every year to pay homage to the first woman Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi who had worked dedicatedly to safeguard national integration of the country. She strived to uphold the integrity of the country till her last breath on October 31, 1984.
